Sea Kayaking

Alder Bay has partnered with North Island Kayaks to offer 3 different sea kayak excursions. We are offering a Johnstone Strait half day trip, full day trip or an evening trip. These tours all depart from Telegraph Cove, just a short drive from Alder Bay.

Join North Island Kayaks for a sea kayaking  excursion in the dynamic Johnstone Strait! Our tours explore local islands, remote beaches, and the rugged coastal shallows of Vancouver Island. This tour is designed to be comfortable and approachable for all. Your guide will ensure that you enjoy this introductory sea kayaking experience.

Sit atop shallow underwater habitats, home to weird and wonderful intertidal creatures. Venture to deeper water and watch bald eagles fishing, seals sunbathing, and porpoises calmly trolling by. With an emphasis on wildlife encounters, scenery, and nature interpretation our professional and experienced guides will ensure your experience is one to remember!

Though our shorter tours are sometimes treated to incredible orca, humpback, sea lion, and dolphin encounters, we do not guarantee any larger marine mammal sightings. The longer you spend on the water, the better your chances of spotting wildlife become.

All tours are in tandem kayaks and no previous experience is required! These tours operate from May 8th to September 24th and are suitable for guests over 8 years old.

The half day trip departs at either 8am or 1pm and is approximately 4 hours in length.

The full day trips depart at 945 am and are approximately 6 hours in length.

The evening trips depart at 530pm and are approximately 2 hours in length.

What to bring: We provide stable double kayaks and safety gear. When kayaking, you may get wet. You should bring shoes that you can get wet and synthetic clothing (avoid cotton). Bring a water bottle and any snacks you require. Sunscreen, hat and sunglasses are also recommended. If you wish to bring a phone and camera, please make sure to seal them in a waterproof case. As the day  the sun will burn through the clouds and it can warm up quite a bit, so dressing in layers is the best way to go.

Each guest will need to complete a waiver prior to any excursion.
