Long Term RV Stays

Last Updated June 2024

Alder Bay has been a hidden gem on Northern Vancouver Island for over 30 years. Many families have been returning every summer over those 30 years to enjoy the wildlife, scenic beauty, fishing and home-style hospitality. Recently, we have begun welcoming an ever-growing number of folks who have chosen to make Alder Bay their year round, permanent home. They like the North Island for the same reasons our summer visitors come and stay. And they happily trade a bit of rain for the slower pace, laid-back, unpretentious lifestyle that is part of what makes life on Northern Vancouver Island so special.

Being located just 15 minutes from the Town of Port McNeill, on a paved road, means that you're close to all the important amenities like a hospital, post-office, well-stocked grocery store, great restaurants, a theatre, a place to get your haircut (ask for Vicky at Bangles!) - all served with small town humility and friendliness.

Wake up every morning just a mere footsteps from the Pacific Ocean and enjoy the magnificent wildlife that the North Island is famous for. We have a population of over 100 Humpback whales that return each spring from warmer calving grounds to feed in the nurtient rich waters of Johnstone Strait literally right by your doorstep. We have over 300 resident Orca that come to feed here as well starting in July and their cousins the Bigg's, or Transient, Orca can be seen more sporadically year round. We have a growing population of Sea Otters and healthy populations of Steller sea lions, Pacific White Sided dolphins and Dall's porpoises. In the spring, summer and autumn, sightings of these animals are frequent and often seen right from the beach at Alder Bay!

Of course, many visitors come for the unparalleled sea food harvesting - prawns, crab, and of course, salmon! With our 43 slip marina, it's easy to slide out to catch an early morning tide and be back in plenty of time to grab lunch on the deck at Roxy's Food Truck before catching some of the best sunset views you will see anywhere on the planet!

Alder Bay is opening a growing but still limited number of RV pads to people who are interested in a peaceful year round RV lifestyle. These RV pads offer the following amenities:

  • clean water that is tested regularly by the Vancouver Island Health Authority
  • a state of the art effluent treatment plant for your sanitary hook-up
