Alder Bay offers a specialized excursion beginning right off the beach at Alder Bay RV Park & Marina. Explore the waters and shoreline surrounding Alder Bay on a three hour guided kayak tour or a 2 hour sunset paddle. Using stable double kayaks, these kayak tours are suitable for everyone – even those with no prior kayaking experience. As we quietly kayak along the shore we often see bald eagles dotting the trees and curious harbour seals popping their heads above the water as we pass.
Your guides will be on the lookout for wildlife like deer and black bears along the beaches, sea stars and urchins in the shallows, and seals and whales in the deeper water. Your guides will eagerly share with you their knowledge of the area and wildlife during your tour.
Our kayak tours operate within the unceded traditional territory of the ‘Namgis First Nation. The surrounding lands and waters are important cultural and resource gathering areas for the ‘Namgis and we take special care to minimize our impacts in the areas we visit.
All abilities and ages 5+ years are welcome!
What to bring: We provide stable double kayaks, all paddling and safety gear – including waterproof paddling jackets. When kayaking, you will get wet. You should bring shoes that you can get wet and synthetic clothing (avoid cotton). Bring a water bottle and any snacks you require. Sunscreen, hat and sunglasses are also strongly recommended. We have dry bags that you can keep a few things dry in the cockpit as well as dry bags for any additional clothing you may wish to bring. The mornings can often be cool and overcast. As the day progresses the sun will burn through the clouds and it can warm up quite a bit so dressing in layers is the best way to go.
